What It Means - Day 357

"You are permitted on the nights of the fast, to go unto your wives. They are a garment for you, and you are a garment for them. God knew that you were betraying yourselves, so He relented unto you and pardoned you. So now lie with them and seek what God has prescribed for you, and eat and drink until the white thread and the black thread of the dawn becomes clear to you. Then complete the fast until nightfall and do not lie with them while you are in retreat in the mosques."
Quran 2:187

And more from the second surah, al-Baqarah, "The Cow," and a discussion of Ramadan. This passage relates to having sex with Ramadan, which is permissible, as long as its with your wife. And after the fast is over. Building upon the notion from yesterday's passage about desiring for you what is easy and not what is hard, the point here is that God relented because people could not completely avoid sex with their spouses, so that people could honestly do so without lying.
